Dr John Gillis

Dr John Gillis is a Senior Manuscript Conservator and currently works in Trinity College Dublin at the Conservation Department. In 1988 he established and worked as Head of Conservation in the Delmas Conservation Bindery at Archbishop Marsh’s Library, Dublin. There is scarcely a manuscript from Early Ireland that has not passed through John’s hands. Among his many notable achievements was the conservation of the ninth-century Faddan More psalter, which was discovered buried in a bog in Tipperary in 2006. He is currently working on a monograph detailing all aspects of the Psalter: art-historical, codicological, palaeographical and material. John has taught book conservation techniques and theory in Italy for over twenty years, and has delivered seminars and lectures all over the world.
